Raf Simons emerges in fashion halfway through the nineties. Fusing the energy and singularity of teenage subcultures with the sharpness and precision of classical sartorial craft, the look presented by Raf Simons is both inspired by and designed for confident outsiders.
From the first collection on, music, art, performance, images and words have a substantial role in the whole package, summing up, or rather clarifying the kind of world Raf Simons wants to project. Equally important in Raf Simons’ approach is the constant quest for innovation. Throughout the years, with the signature style evolving and maturing, the key elements stay the same: modern proportions, a constant research for fabrics and textures and above all the interplay of pure construction and new shapes with the body and psyche of the contemporary man.
Hitting the runway on January 16th, both styles in the catwalk collection are inspired by the iconic EASTPAK daypack, revisited with Raf Simons' distinctive haute couture vision.
From the high-end, silky jacquard fabrics and shiny webbing to the polished hardware and embroidered logo, these high-end daypacks fit seamlessly in Simons’ overall collection and exude an unmistakably luxurious look and feel. Innovative construction techniques such as blind hems and hidden stitching create a discrete, harmonious play of patterns, forms and colors: 6 striped patterns and 7 block colors in all.
Available from selected retailers as of June 2013, the EASTPAK X RAF SIMONS IV collection features the same styles and production techniques as the catwalk collection. Raf Simons’ original fabrics and trims are matched with custom-designed EASTPAK materials made to the brand’s legendary quality standards in a selection of limited-edition colors: purple, navy, black/silver stripe and brown/navy stripe.
